Profiles: Dan Gable Iowa’s Dan Gable is regarded by many as the greatest amateur wrestler of all time. He has perhaps done more than any other athlete to bring amateur wrestling into the American mainstream. Best know for his Olympic Gold winning efforts in 1972, where he didn't concede a single point - Gable was an unstoppable force throughout his career. During his prep and college years, he compiled an unbelievable record of 182-1. By the time of the Munich Olympics (1972), Gable’s reputation was such that the Soviets made it their mission to defeat him - but they couldn’t touch the ‘Untouchable’. Gable went on to coach the University of Iowa’s wrestling team for 20 years compiling an impressive coaching career and trained numerous Olympic medal winners. Gable was inducted to the USA Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1980 and to the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 1985. Click here to visit the Dan Gable website
